maritsa-churchMaritsa is a village situated on west coast of the island, about 17 km far from the capital, between Kremasti and Psinthos. This village is renowned for its traditional taverns and active nightlife all year round. Near the village at the old international airport, car and motorbike races are held as well as model airplane shows. Outside the village you’ll find two churches. The Agios Georgios church, built in the 15th century and the Agios Nikolaos church, with wall paintings from the 15th century.A very historical and traditional village! it doesn’t matter how late in the evening you arrive in Maritsa – the place will still be buzzingvillage-maritsa with life. The cafes, tavernas and bars will be full of people, the youngsters will be riding up and down on their bicycles, lively discussions will be in progress in front of the stone-built houses with their tile roofs. The heart of the community is the village square. Every day crowds of people gather under the pergola – not only locals but also people coming out from Rhodes town to savour the delicious mezedes and finely cooked meat. The atmosphere is always very vibrant: the villagers are renowned across the island for their love of good food and late nights.
